  2. I got an error in my dl’d text document:
There was a problem opening the file /tmp/npcs.txt.
The file you opened has some invalid characters. If you continue editing this file you could corrupt this document.
You can also choose another character encoding and try again.
    Character encoding: Current Locale (UTF-8)

The problem with the script is in the random name generator, I think:
Name: Souni Hon\DFhoueth, it is the “/DF” that was highlighted red in my text editor.

Other than that, this is a pretty shiny NPC generator, but one fighter, human, female was 110 years old, and in parentheses (middle aged)!

    Thanks for posting this!

    • Thanks for the feedback — I should be able to fix the issue with the output immediately (it sounds like a name on my list has non-ascii characters). The age issue will take a little longer to hunt down, but knowing this is happening helps me greatly.

    • Implemented a couple of fixes:
      1) Removed non-ascii characters from the name list files (this should fix the encoding error)
      2) Cleared some variables/arrays/hashes between iterations of the script (should fix the age issue)

Thank you again for the feedback.

  3. I get a brief flash 0n my Windows 7 desktop monitor at the bottom showing a ribbon saying “Waiting for Dwarvenauromata.” and then nothing as far as a download. Yet it works fine on my Windows 10 la[top. What gives?

    • That’s very odd – especially since I only have Windows 7 machines myself. Also, everything happens server-side, so your OS should not matter. It might be a oversensitive firewall issue on your Windows 7 machine, but I will double check things on my end.

  4. Wow this is phenomenal. There seems to be nothing as extensive like this out there. quite a treasure for us old 1e runners. I’d request some additional features if one is inclined.

Include classes from Unearthed Arcana, (at least the Barbarian).

    A 100 results dropdown option.

    A resulting list thats numbered.

    Cool though, thanks again.

  5. This thing is AMAZING!!!
I recently had a bunch of my D&D stolen, along with half my campaign notes, and about cried at the amount of work I would have to redo. This NPC generator is saving me so much time so I can keep my campaign going.

  6. Seems that dexterity bonuses are not displayed in the file, just 0 for reaction adjustment and defensive adjustment regardless of the score.

    • Thanks for the heads up! I will look into this — although it may be a bit before I have a chance. Hopefully the tool is still useful to you.

  7. Extremely useful for prepping encounters with one-off wizards and druids. No more scouring the spellbooks for “yeah, but what would *work?*”. Big help, thanks.
