Session 4 – November 14, 2018

A Travelogue: From the City to the Hinterland.

Accident in the Hinterland

While exploring the wilds on the outskirts of town, we were in a steep valley and encountered some poor souls killed in an avalanche. We looked for signs of life, and finding none, their ID, in hopes of alerting their families.

While examining the disaster, we were met by some frontier law enforcement, who at first accused us of foul play, but seeing the rocks from the landslide and the types of injuries, they requested our assistance to continue as we were. So until the light faded, we examined the rocks for signs of life, or signs of a poor unfortunate soul.

One finds on the outskirts of civilization that one is often required to perform their public duty with no hope of recompense or reward.

Some of the deceased lacked identification, or we could not find it. Others had no known family respond to postings of their demise. Such incidents should give us all pause to reflect on our lot in life.

There is no justice in such events, and no chance of revenge for the callous hand of nature.
